Happy Now

I am the decorating committee at church. This means I am also in charge of planting and maintaining the outside planters. Xander and I arrived at church yesterday morning and I realized that the summer-that-never-was is over.

"Granny's flowers are looking a little sad," I commented out loud, but mostly to myself.

"I know how to make them happy!" was X's enthusiastic response. Then he proceeds to break into full-out dance, shakin' his booty and snappin' his fingers.

"There!" he exclaims. "I did a happy dance for them. They'll be happy now."

I don't know if the plants were any happier, but I was.

Try Danny Try

"I don't have a votabulary, Danny," Xander said to me one day after I commented how phenominal I thought his vocabulary was - even though he doesn't always pronounce the words completely perfect.

He calls me Danny and his C's sound like T's but he doesn't lisp his S's. But the bank of words he draws from as a 2-year-old is quite remarkable. I credit a lot of this to his mother's style of parenting - always involving him in conversation, explaining in real language what is going on and refusing to speak baby language with him.

I realize my opinion and observations of him are tainted with love and admiration but every time I spend the day with him I want to record it all so I can share it with the world and have everyone else confirm what I already know: Xander is a smart kid.

I have decided to officially discontinue my regular blog (though I may still periodically add to it). I just want to be released from it. However, I do want to keep a record of X and our upcoming Baby Y. This is where I will do it.

You are completely welcome to follow along, but I will warn you that the entries here are for my own record and observations. I will not try to make an entertaining story out of every entry just because I know you are reading over my shoulder.

I really wished I had started this blog on March 3, 2009 - a day that changed my life forever.
